AfroPunk has been trending throughout the fashion industry since well know musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Grace Jones entered onto the scene. But the name AfroPunk originated from James Spooners 2003 documentary, which explored black race and identity throughout the punk scene not only in America but worldwide. As well as distributing on-point music, AfroPunk fashion also showcases some of the most amazing street style outfits you will ever see, including epic hair transitions and insane accessories.
The AfroPunk festival was founded 2 years later, prior to the documentary being released and is still a much celebrated tradition across AfroPunk culture. In 2016 the festival location will be held in Paris with a change-up from its original scenery of Brooklyn, New York. Besides from just rock, Afropunk festival represents music culture from a wide variation of genres such as, Electronic, Hip Hop and R&B.
